So...the eventually found pumpkin soon turned into this.....
And the flesh was well and truly scooped out and turned into this....
PUMPKIN & COCONUT SOUP
Ingredients;
Flesh of half a pumpkin
1 Large potato
1 large onion
1/2 can of coconut cream
salt & pepper
optional chilli
Method;
Fry one whole onion until soft, add about 430 ml of water, the chopped potato and the pumpkin flesh.
Bring to the boil and then simmer until soft. Add the coconut milk and salt and black pepper to taste.
Blend the soup for a creamy texture and serve with warm crusty bread.
If you like a bit of spice add one finely chopped chilli when frying the onion!
As a keen eater and lover of all things countryside I thought I would set this up to review different aspects of eating in East Sussex, from restaurants and cafes, to farms, local produce and recipes. Also, as I attempt each year in my miniature garden, a little bit of growing your own!

Last minute pumpkin finding!!!!
For those of you in the Heathfield / Buxted areas......
If any of you find yourselves in the pumpkin finding panic I was in this afternoon - having discovered that all the local shops had sold out of pumpkins - we found this whopper for just a few pounds at Oast Farm, Lepham Bridge, Buxted. Just a little up from the crossroads> It's open until five, so grab yourself a pumpkin on your way home!
I will be going back there soon to review the cafe too , so keep posted :)

Possibly the best apple I have ever eaten!!!!
Well the truth here is that I never liked apples, until I became pregnant and then I simply could not get enough of them. It was also then that I discovered just how different apples can be and that I am particularly apple fussy!!
Last month, while buying food in Stavertons Nursery in Halland I discovered the most amazing apple ever - a Buxted Beauty!!! Grown in Buxted this is truely the most delicious apple ever - absolutely enormous, crisp, sweet and with a gorgeous colour! Stavertons Nursery also seems a great source of local fruit and veg (as well as being a fantastic nursery with great value plants) if nothing else-visit to seek out the Buxted Beauty!!

Growing anything and everything...... Grapefruits!!
Well this year, alongside the usual vegetables I try to grow, I thought I'd have a go at planting seeds out of any other foods I had at home, so I planted a seed from my pink grapefruit and this picture is of it so far!! Admittedly after a year it is only now about 4 inches tall......and I'm not expecting a large crop of grapefruits anytime soon, but it is a rather lovely plant.....and you never know!!
